“Una società che non pensa alla morte è destinata a morire”. Al Dio ignoto è un film sulla necessità di prendersi cura della persona, a partire dalla propria. Lucia ha perso la primogenita Anna, morta di leucemia; mentre il figlio adolescente, Gabriel, cerca di elaborare il lutto adottando uno stile di vita temerario, Lucia cerca di sopravvivere dedicandosi interamente alla cura di malati terminali dell’Hospice nel quale lavora come infermiera. Come maestri inconsapevoli, saranno proprio loro a mostrarle una strada possibile per affrontare la sua angoscia.

“A society that does not think about death is destined to die”. Al Dio Ignoto is a film about the need to take care of a person, starting with one’s own. Lucia has lost her eldest daughter Anna, who died of leukaemia; while her teenage son, Gabriel, tries to mourn by adopting a reckless lifestyle, Lucia tries to survive by devoting herself entirely to the care of the terminally ill in the hospice where she works as a nurse. As unwitting masters, they will be the ones to show her a possible way to face her anguish.

Quarantena e reclusione obbligatoria sono l’occasione per entrare in una casa, in una vita, e narrarne i ritmi, le storie e i fantasmi. La soglia è un confine oltre cui si intuisce un mondo esterno con una propria velocità e propri significati. Le finestre lasciano entrare una piccola porzione di mondo modulata ora sullo sguardo, ora sull’udito, mentre all’interno la narrazione, senza parole, si sviluppa lenta e in forma quasi di diario.

Un fazzoletto di terra nel cuore del centro antico noto solo per l’altissimo tasso di delinquenza, la disoccupazione e le faide di camorra che negli anni lo hanno insanguinato e isolato dal resto della città, trasformandolo in un vero e proprio ghetto. Dai primi anni del 2000, grazie all’intervento di alcune associazioni capitanate dal nuovo parroco del quartiere, è in atto un processo unico di rigenerazione urbana e culturale; il documentario analizza quel “sistema” di sviluppo che partendo dagli ultimi, dalle “pietre scartate diventate testate d’angolo”, ha trasformato il volto e il cuore del rione.

A patch of land in the heart of the old town known only for the very high rate of delinquency, unemployment and the Camorra feuds that over the years have bloodied and isolated it from the rest of the city, turning it into a real ghetto. Since the early 2000’s, thanks to the intervention of some associations headed by the new parish priest of the district, a unique process of urban and cultural regeneration is underway; the documentary analyzes that “system” of development which, starting from the last, from the “discarded stones that have become corner heads”, has transformed the face and heart of the district.

Antonio è un padre solitario che vive con sua figlia adolescente. Il suo lavoro di giardiniere non basta per sostenerli. Quindi inizia a lavorare come corriere per un caporale, che trasporta gli operai nei campi. Quando uno di questi ragazzi scompare, Antonio dovrà scegliere da che parte stare.

Antonio is a lonely father who lives with his teenage daughter. His work as a gardener is not enough to support them. Then he starts working as a courier for a corporal, who transports the workers to the fields. When one of these kids goes missing, Antonio will have to choose which side to take.

TAXI, di Matteo Vicino (Italia, 13’)
Scritto e interpretato da Riccardo Leonelli, vede protagonista Sandro, che fa il tassista a Roma e sta tornando a casa nella notte dopo aver finito il turno. Una giovane donna incinta, Nina, gli chiede un passaggio. Dopo una breve esitazione, il tassista decide di farla salire e i due iniziano a parlare. Dalla loro conversazione scopriamo che Sandro ha dei problemi famigliari e qualche pregiudizio razziale di troppo, mentre Nina, milanese di passaggio a Roma, vive una relazione complicata col suo compagno.

Written and performed by Riccardo Leonelli, presents Sandro, a taxi driver in Rome, returning home at night after finishing his shift. A young pregnant woman, Nina, asks him for a ride. After a brief hesitation, the taxi driver decides to pick her up and the two start talking. From their conversation we discover that Sandro has too many family problems and some racial prejudice, while Nina, a Milanese passing through Rome, is living a complicated relationship with her partner.

THE EXECUTION OF MEMORY, di Gabi Bania (Polonia, 10’)
Racconto metaforico sui “demoni del passato” e sulla lotta per liberarsene, il film è un adattamento cinematografico della poesia di Jerzy Ficowski che dà il titolo al volume “A Reading of Ashes”, dedicato al tema dell’Olocausto e della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, pubblicato in occasione del cinquantesimo anniversario della rivolta del ghetto di Varsavia.

Metaphorical story about the “demons of the past” and the struggle to get rid of them, the film is a film adaptation of the poem by Jerzy Ficowski that gives the title to the volume “A Reading of Ashes”, dedicated to the theme of the Holocaust and the Second World War, published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising.
